Franklin Pierce upsets Adelphi

by Joshua Labrecque

On a brisk, cold night  at Sodexo Field, the Franklin Pierce soccer team took on the Nationally ranked number two team in the country Adelphi on Senior night.  Number 18 Javier Garcia Borras, assisted by number 10 Yannick Felber, scored the first goal of the night to bring Pierce up 1-0 early at the 36 Minute mark in the first half.

This game had the loudest and biggest fan reaction I’ve heard at Pierce. Every time the Ravens got the ball on offense the crowd would get as loud as fireworks. The sound of the crowd shook the stands in excitement as the ravens played a hard fought game all 90 minutes

The Ravens would end up allowing only one goal during the game. It was scored by number 23 Aiden Keenan, assisted by number 26 Ofek Pinto. After Ravens goalkeeper Jadel Poon-Lewis came out to far and missed a goal, it made it his first goal let up at home in the season.

Franklin Pierce went up 2-1 at 7 minutes left in the first half. The goal was scored by number 10 Yannick Felber, who faced 3 Adelphi defenders and  despite their pressure, Felber was able to get a shot off bringing Pierce up on the score board.

There were a lot of steals back and fourth on both teams but everytime Adelphi tried to steal, Franklin Pierce always had an answer.  Adelphi brought heavy offensive but the Ravens defense is ranked as one of the best in the NE10 Conference they were able to handle the ball on there side very well.

“Lets go!,” screamed the crowd as well as the the Franklin Pierce bench as the team scored another goal making the score 3-1 in the Ravens favor.  The new point was recorded by number 26 Isak Helgason who took it himself out from the 25 yard line making it a long shot bringing the ravens up.

At the end of a game their was a big motion in Pierces favor. Jadel Poon-Lewis saved a shot that almost went over his head and the men’s soccer team made huge play because of it.  They brought the ball all the way down to Adelphi’s side of the field and made a terrific shot on goal. This made the Ravens go up 4-1 against the nationally ranked number two team.  Goal scored by number 10 Yannick Felber once again who seemed to be the MVP of this game and was named NE10 Conference player of the week.

This win put Pierce into second place and opened the possibility of having home field advantage through the playoffs if Adelphi loses another game. Ravens now move on to American International, their  final game of the regular season.
