IS has named their new leader after Abu bakr al Baghdadi was killed by U.S. forces, according to CNN.
Baghdadi was killed on Thursday, October 31st during a raid in which U.S. forces were under small arms fire from multiple locations as their helicopter approached Baghdadi’s compound in northern Syria.
Baghdadi left an audio recording naming his replacement, which was posted on the IS social media page, al Furqan. The new leader of IS is Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Qurayshi. Counterterrorist analysts are working on gathering information about al-Qurayshi because nearly nothing is known about him. In the audio recording IS spokesperson Abu Hamza al-Qarshi said, “Do you not realize that the State today is not only on the doorstep of Europe and in the center of Africa, it is staying and expanding from the east to the west.”
