Men’s ice hockey celebrates Heart Brothers Night at Jason Ritchie ’05 Ice Arena.
“Heart Brothers Foundation is based out of the New England area,” said senior Jessica Strack, who was running the table during the first period. “They offer assistance to anyone battling heart disease, or similar heart conditions.”
“The assistance can include financial help, meal plan, or anything outside of the medical field to get families through a hard time,” said sophomore Bridget Fagan, who was also running the table.
The men’s hockey team were wearing special white jerseys with the Heart Brothers’ logo on them in lieu of their regular home jerseys. Both the men’s and women’s teams have ties to heart disease.
“On the men’s team, goalie, junior Ian Wallace’s father passed away back in May; assistant coach Nik Passero’s father. On the women’s team, junior Emily Kramer’s father passed away as well from heart disease.” Strick said.
As for the game itself, the Franklin Pierce hosted the St. Michael’s Purple Knights, and the game remained scoreless after the first period. The crowd of nearly 100 people could be heard chatting about the game, upcoming assignments and plans with Thanksgiving Break just around the corner.
Franklin Pierce killed a pair of penalties in the first period, and were helped by Wallace’s diving save late in the first period.
Heart Brothers are collecting donations and giving out information at both the men’s and women’s games on November 22nd.
