Franklin Pierce Men’s hockey took on Assumption College for a spot in the playoffs.
The Jason Richie ‘05 Ice Arena was jam-packed and many people stood around the rink. In the crowd were the team families there to celebrate senior night for this year’s nine seniors.
Both teams started off strong, ending the first two periods 0 to 0. Finally, with 14 minutes left in the third period, freshman Jason Ladzinski from FPU scored. Fans leaped from their seats and banged on the glass cheering.
Despite shot after shot Assumption could not get the puck past FPU’s goalie, junior Ian Wallace. Ladzinski was the only player to score, ending the game 1 to 0.
“We have a strong team and we keep getting better every year. There isn’t another group of guys I’d want to be out there with,” said forward Matthew Toombs, a senior. Since Toombs joined the Raven’s he has watched the team improve year by year, winning more games each season.
“They really deserved this,” said sophomore Corinne Mccarthy, a fan. “We are all rooting for them in the playoffs.”
The men’s team goes into playoffs this week on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. in Worcester Mass., where they will again face Assumption College.
